JUDGING THE NATIONAL PROFESSIONAL BEAUTY AWARDS

JUDGES ARE IMPARTIAL AND AWARD POINTS SOLELY ON THE BASIS OF THE ENTRY THEY LOOK AT, WITH NO VALUE ATTACHED TO PRIOR REPUTATION OR OTHER ISSUES. YOU CAN LEARN ABOUT THE JUDGING PROCEDURE FOR THE RELEVANT CATEGORIES BELOW:

FIRST-ROUND JUDGING – EMPLOYER, NAIL SALON, NAIL PROFESSIONAL, MAKE-UP SPECIALIST, THERAPIST & MEDICAL AESTHETIC CLINIC CATEGORIES

Judges are asked to read through all entries and score each one based on pre-defined criteria. The points are added up and the highest scoring entries are shortlisted as finalists, making it through to the second round

FIRST-ROUND JUDGING – BEAUTY SALON, RESIDENTIAL SPA AND DAY SPA CATEGORIES
The shortlist for the salon and spa categories will come from the winners and particularly high-scoring finalists of the Professional Beauty Regional Awards (held in Manchester on October 21).  It is no longer possible to enter the following categories of the national Professional Beauty Awards directly: Beauty Salon: Four Rooms or More, Beauty Salon: Three Rooms or Fewer, Residential Spa: 10 Rooms or Fewer, Residential Spa: 11 Rooms or More

SECOND-ROUND JUDGING – BEAUTY SALON & SPA CATEGORIES
Finalists will have already won (or scored very highly) in the Professional Beauty Regional Awards in October. These salons will then receive notification that they have reached the finals of the national Professional Beauty Awards.

Shortlisted finalists may be asked for supporting financial information. Should this be asked it will remain confidential and will only be seen by the awards management team (NOT the judges). It will not be published anywhere. The purpose is solely to ensure the financial viability of the business.

Mystery visitor – A ‘mystery’ client will visit all the finalists. The mystery client will book unannounced in the normal way and experience some treatments. These visits will take place between September and November 2018.  If your clinic is closed for any period during these months, we need you to notify us of this in advance by sending an email to Sharon Webb at sharon@professionalbeauty.co.uk. Afterwards the Mystery Shopper will complete a questionnaire and report back to the judges. Entrants are expected to cover the cost of the mystery client’s treatments.

Official visitor – All finalists will have already been visited by an announced awards visitor as part of the PB Regional Awards judging process. That visitors judging report will be read and taken into account by the judges for the national awards.

Judges meet in London for a deliberation day where they discuss the findings of the official visitor and the mystery shopper and review the original entries.

Judges do not agree on a winner as a group but instead score independently using pre-defined criteria.

Judges submit their final scores to the Professional Beauty Awards organising team, who then total up all the scores from all the judges. The finalist with the highest collective score wins.

NOTE: Finalists will be responsible for providing treatments free of charge for both the mystery visitor and official.
